How Gratitude Practice Creates Happiness
What is happiness? Is it a new outfit, a new job, hitting a workout goal? Are you always looking for the next thing to make you happy for a short period of time? How long does happiness last?
In this post, we will answer each of these questions so you can understand why it's important that you stop chasing happiness and make the choice to be happy every single day.
Happiness is a Choice You Make Every Day
Life can be hard and difficult if you let it, and everyday obstacles will try to steal your joy. Do not let the negative in your life be a thief. You have a choice to not sweat the small stuff, to overlook the negatives, and to come out on top. You can accept the highs and lows in life, make the best of every situation, and choose to have happiness in all of it.
Letting your situations, your friends, or even your inabilities control your feelings and emotions is crazy, and doing so may mean you can never experience true happiness. Do not wait for the next person or thing to make you happy. It is your responsibility to be happy. It is your choice to control your emotions, thoughts, and feelings. It is your choice to be happy.
Practice Gratitude
One of the biggest keys to happiness is to practice gratitude. Gratitude is the quality of being thankful. How often do you sit and think about everything you are thankful for? Your job, vehicle, family, friends, etc. When you focus on positive things and things that you are thankful for, you can rewire your brain to be more positive.
For example, start each morning naming things you are thankful for, then write them down to get a visual of everything so that you can revisit them later. And then, try to end your day creating a list of things that you are thankful for. This way you establish a routine for focusing on the positives that happened that day.
Ultimately, you'll learn to be more thankful for what you have!
How Gratitude Increases Happiness
Studies have shown that gratitude practice can actually reduce your stress levels and can help you deal with certain circumstances that are happening or may happen again. So yes it's true, being thankful has its benefits. And all of us could benefit from reducing stress.
Studies have also shown that gratitude is associated with greater happiness. The studies that have been published about practicing gratitude show improvements to a person's general health and well being. It is nearly impossible to have negative feelings towards something you recognized as being thankful for, so you should practice gratitude and stay thankful.
Therefore, if you're looking for a way to de-stress, whether you need a pick me up or just want to live a more positive life, it’s important to practice gratitude. Start your day with things you are thankful for, and make sure to keep a list that you can look back on. And again end your day on a thankful note.
Remember to: Write down things, people, and events that happened that day that you are thankful for.
Because happiness is a choice that you can make every day. What are you choosing?
